January 2017 is almost coming to a close and I have not posted yet this month. Things haven't been too exciting lately (same shit, different day) so there hasn't been much to write about. Additionally, unlike the last five years, I didn't write a post on my birthday this year. Those of you that know me, know that I do not like celebrating my birthday. I don't like the attention on me that I am indeed getting older. And turning 35 and still being single was not something that I felt needed to be celebrated. At all.

Thirty-Four, I need to Soar
I am not gonna lie, but I am glad the year of thirty-three is over. It really sucked. I'm not sure why so many things didn't go my way, but I am ready to let that shit go. So today, I welcome thirty-four. Well, I welcome it as much as someone who is not a fan of birthdays can welcome it.
For the fifth time that I have celebrated my birthday since beginning this blog, I am writing my annual birthday post. I like to look back at the highlights (these were few and far between this year) and the lowlights (there were a lot more of these which is also why I didn't write all that much this year.) As I always do, I like to start with the lows and end with highs so I can build upon them.

It has to be...33
Thirty-three. Damn. Yeah, you read that right, thirty-freaking-three. Le sigh. Where has the time gone? Seriously, I'm like almost 40. Ugh.
Everyone who knows me well knows that I am not a huge fan of my birthday. I don't like to celebrate it or bring attention to it if I don't have to. It's just another reminder that I am getting older (and am still alone) and no one really likes to be reminded of that. I guess the good thing is that I rarely actually realize how old I am. Seriously, I feel 23 most of the time, which I guess is a great thing But when the reality hits me that I am indeed TEN years older than that, it can be slightly crushing. Yikes. But I do know there is still plenty of time to do, see, and experience so much.

Onto the new with 32!
Well friends, its happening again. Just like it does every year, I am turning a year older. Thirty-fucking-two. I'm old. The good news is that I don't feel like I am 32. And also, if I must speak honestly (don't I always?!), I don't think I look it either. I'm assuming everyone agrees with that statement too so it's all good. Wink, wink. But really, in most aspects of life, you are only as old as you feel and to not feel ancient right now is good enough for me.
As I've done the last two years that I've had this blog and celebrated a birthday, I like to look back and highlight my year. As with anyone, along with the highlights always come some lowlights and from them I can only learn and grow. As I get older, I continue to evaluate some of my mistakes and do my damnest not to repeat them. I'm not perfect, so yeah, sometimes I do make the same mistake twice. It frustrates the hell out of me, but in the end, it does make me stronger and better. So as I did last year, I am starting with the lows of the year and ending with the highs hoping to start 32 with a bang. Without furthur ado, here is how 31 went for me...

Fun Fun 31
Well, my "Dirty 30" has come and gone and I am now the ripe old age of 31. Sigh. I really thought 30 was going to be my year, but alas, it wasn't. That's okay because I know I have so many more ahead of me. And I am hoping bigger and better is still to come for me. It has to.
Like most years, there were the highs and the lows. Of course my 30th year was no different. Below were my highs and lows of the year. I am going to start with the lows as to end with the highs so I can continue on a high note as I enter this new year of my life. Right on...

The Dirty 30!
Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday dear... Yeah, yeah. Ugh, it's my birthday. The dirty 30. I guess I need to change the age in my "About Me" section, huh? I am kind of in denial to do so, so I don't know if I can right now. And forget about entering it on the elliptical on my workout this morn. Maybe I will just keep entering 29 for a little while longer. Hmmm?
I don't know why I have such negative connotation with my 30th birthday. I think it's because I feel 30 is old. And I am NOT old!! I hear 30 is the new 21, and I am really trying to embrace that, so I'll just have to play it by ear. You see the thing is, I don't feel 30. At all. I feel like I am 23 (and sometimes act like it). I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but its the truth.
When I was younger, I had these grand plans for myself for when I "grew up." I thought by the time I was 30, I'd be married, with at least one kid and potentially another on the way, living comfortably in the suburbs teaching at the very high school I went to. Pretty fabulous life I had planned for myself, right?
