As soon as we woke up this morning we just wanted to get off the ship ASAP. Our toilet stopped flushing in the middle of the night, which was not okay and we just wanted to begin our day. After breakfast on the ship, we got some money and talked to reception about the toilet
sitch, and apparently you aren’t supposed to flush anything down the toilet except poop and pee. So we are supposed to wipe and then throw the TP in the garbage can for poop and pee. Gross. Also, we weren't going to do that for poop. Sorry, not sorry.
Anyway, after all of that nonsense, we caught the shuttle bus from our ship to Old Town where we wanted to do some siteseeing. We saw the famous Panagai Paraportiani church, the little Venice area, and then the windmills that Mykonos is known for. We were there pretty early so when we hit the church, we weren’t even sure if we were right because no one else around, but we realized we were just ahead of the game, as usual and had it all to ourselves. Awesome. The windmills were also really cool to see and take pics with, naturally. We did all that touristy stuff pretty quickly and then just wandered around town a bit, but were a little hesitant to veer off too much because Mykonos is like a maze. We learned that was to confuse the pirates and the Turks from getting to the locals. There were cute little shops and beautiful white washed buildings, narrow passageways, colorful doors, bright flowers, and lots of cool steps and balconies. I don’t know how someone realistically lives there because it seems so inconvenient, but obviously many do. We also saw Pelican Pete, a local bird legend, who roams around Old Town minding his own business. When we first saw him, it freaked me out so much because I am not really an animal person, let alone a wild animal person because they freak me out with their unpredictability. It was surprising to see a really pelican just doing his thing.
Mykonos doesn’t seem to be a very accessible town to get around. There are only 30 taxis on the whole island and we didn’t see a single one. We had originally wanted to go to Lindsay Lohan’s new beach club here, but realized it’s pretty far, and I had read about another beach club a little closer that we decided to hit up. We took the public bus to Super Paradise Beach; one of many to choose from. It was like a 25 minute ride and up and around mountains, which isn’t even close to being accessible by anything else. The infrastructure of the island is bizarre which makes me wonder how other tourists get around. Do all the hotels have shuttle buses to different beaches? That could take forever, not to mention be super annoying. Anywho, when we got to Super Paradise we decided we wanted to grab a drink since hey, we are on vacay. We ordered strawberry daiquiris since we were so hot (see a trend on this trip so far?) and someone else got one and it looked delish. It was refreshing and tasted great, but very, very weak. Neither one of us could taste or feel any alcohol. Ripoff. We then made our way to the beach chairs and took in the beauty of the island. The Mediterranean Sea was super blue, clear, and calm. It was gorgeous. We set up camp on lounge chairs and just relaxed for a little before getting in the water. It was breezy and amazing and just so pretty to be in this crystal clear water surrounded by these mountains and blue skies. Island life, man. It’s awesome. We did have to pay 15 euros to use the lounge chairs, but it was well worth it. We were comfy, the music was great, and the people watching even better. There didn’t seem to be too many Americans there (but we haven’t seen many anywhere actually), but we definitely enjoyed seeing all the Euro men in their little bathing suits. And yes, we did see boobies. Big ole fake boobies.

We stayed at the beach club for about three hours and took the bus back to the boat so we could shower, eat dinner, and relax before going back out for sunset drinks and dancing. We knew that we wanted to watch the sunset from one of the restaurants on the water back in Old Town with our Canadian friends and my friend from NYC who met us for a quick hello in Athens. After showering and beautifying, we took the shuttle back to town and walked around for a few before settling on a perfect people and sunset watching table. We sat around and drank and talked for a few hours before deciding we wanted to find a place to dance. Originally we once again had thought we’d head out to Lindsay’s Lohan’s beach club, but after realizing what a pain in the ass it is to get around this island, we had to unfortunately nix that plan. Again. C’mon Lindsay, make something more convenient for us tourists. My friend had walked around a bunch last night so had an idea of where to look for a fun spot, and after checking on a few, we settled on one that wasn’t too crowded, but was playing the best music, i.e hip hop. We settled in this pretty empty bar and were having a ton of fun. Eventually it really started to fill up and we found ourselves taking over an area near a table and just dancing on that. Standard. We were dancing and singing and sweating so much and just having a great time. The only problem I had was all the cigarette smoke. Everyone was smoking inside and it was disgusting. I’m not used to breathing all that in, especially inside a bar, and it was making it hard to breathe and really drying out my throat (all the singing didn’t help either). After a couple hours of breathing that shit in, I had to leave the bar and get fresh air and water. At this point it was about 2 am and although we obviously could have continued to stay out, we figured it best to call it a night so we could be functional in Milos the next day. We had just missed the shuttle back to the boat so had to kill a little less than an hour for the next one, so we walked around a little more and got some food before saying goodbye to my friend and grabbing our shuttle back to the boat. Sticky from sweat and wreaking of smoke, we got to our rooms about 3:10 and called it one really fun night out in Mykonos. Such a perfect way to end a fabulous day on the island.
