If possible, today was even better than yesterday. On Thursday we had decided that we wanted to do both Positano and Amalfi today, but weren’t sure if we should use the public bus or the ferries, but ultimately decided to book a day boat trip that went to both Positano and Amalfi, but also made a stop at an island. We looked online, read the reviews, which were all positive, and booked it. We got picked up in our lobby a little before nine this morning and headed to a different dock than yesterday. In our van over there, there was a couple from NJ we started talking to. They ended up being on our boat as well which was great.
We once again had a boat of 12 people which made it feel like we were once again, just on a friend’s boat. Our first stop was in the middle of the water at an Li Galli island. We got off the boat to swim in the open water and the boat even had noodles for us to just chill on in the water. After about a half hour, it was time to get back on and make our way to Amalfi. The view along the way was incredible as to be expected. It was stunning when we got there, also as expected. We had an hour and half to explore the town and do our thing. We walked around the town for about 45 minutes (which included lemon slushies and me getting yelled at by a police man for not wearing a shirt) and then hit the beach for 45. After leaving our water shoes at the hotel yesterday because we didn’t think we needed them, we made sure not to make that mistake again. The beach was not nearly as rocky as yesterday, but the rocks on this one were very hot and still not pleasant on bare feet. We spent the rest of our time in the water, and then it was time to board the boat again to head to Positano.
Our tour included a sandwich and it ended up being a really delicious tomato and mozzarella standard. I’m not even gonna lie, I can’t get enough of these. We ate and just laid on the front of the boat until we reached Positano. Let me tell you, boat life is for me.
Soon enough we were in Positano, and the views as the boat pulled up were exceptional. There is seriously beauty all around us. We had about an hour and half here as well so we walked around town with the couple from NJ and got some Powerade and a cannoli, and then made our way to the beach again. The water here is super clear and super warm so we had no problem just being in there.
When time was up, we boarded the boat again and made one more stop along the way, again, in open water to jump off and swim around. This time around, I asked for a mask so I could swim around and look underwater. The water was clear and I could see pretty deep down without any, but I wanted to get my face in there with a clear view. To my surprise, there was like water-grass down there. Like long stalks, probably about a foot high, all over. It was definitely not what I expected, but so cool to see. There were very few fish, thankfully, because that would have freaked me out. I’m not one for open water in oceans and seas because of all the creatures (sharks, jellyfish, stingrays, the abyss, etc...and the Meg, ya know), but I’m in an absolutely gorgeous place so I needed to face my fears the last two days and just do it. And I’m beyond happy I did. And I’m still alive to tell you all about it. Phew. It was such a wonderful experience to jump off the boat and just swim with little fear.
Finally, it was time for the boat ride back to the dock. It was a long and rocky ride back, but again, I faced some fears staying on the front and not totally freaking out about falling over and stuff. When we got back to the dock, we had our car back to the hotel, exchanged numbers with the couple from NJ in hopes of meeting up with them later in the night.
We got back to the hotel, checked our social media which we hadn’t been on all day (the horror), and then showered and got ready to grab food, do a little shopping and go out. Nothing like our Budapest night out, but some drinks and fun. We wanted to buy some limoncello for people and just look around again. We also had to get a bite to eat if we were going to drink. We bought our souvenirs, the first of the trip really, and then stopped and split a sandwich. For whatever reason, we really weren’t that hungry. Then we went to a bar called Shot Bar that we had read about, and we going to meet up with our new NJ friends.
When we got to the bar, it was much smaller than we expected, but the drinks were cheap and there was an iPad with Spotify for us to pick the music. We were sold. Us and the couple stayed there for about two hours before heading to a British bar. It was pretty tame, but a good time too. And at point they played “Wonderwall” by Oasis and the entire bar was singing on the top of their lungs. It was fantastic, but not enough to keep ya there. We were all starting to get a little hungry so we went to get some food before heading back to our hotels, but everything was closed. Huge bummer. But prob for the better anyway.
In general, today was one, if not, the best of the trip. From start to finish, it was just so fun. It went so smoothly and everything we saw and did was incredible. Again, it makes me feel so grateful to be able to have this opportunity and do what we’ve been doing. I can’t believe there’s only one more day of this trip.
