Guess I need to watch Game of Thrones...

DAY 16
It’s our last full day here and we wanted to start it running, literally and figuratively. I thought I set our alarm last night for 5:05 this morning so J and I could do another sunrise run while in Croatia. However, I must have done something wrong because I woke up at 5:40 to use the bathroom and freaked out because we should have been running by then. Whoops! I immediately woke J up and we quickly got dressed and headed out on our run. There looked to be one long path but we couldn’t seem to find it so we did a little out and back and I went another way up a hill and found some road. I also happened to pass the cave bar I read about online. We ran for three miles then came home and showered and changed quickly to begin our day.

Since we got the lay of the land yesterday, we knew exactly where and when to go. We took the #6 bus back to the old city and started on walking the walls. We paid our entrance fee and began the journey along the walls outside the old city. Game of Thrones was filmed here from season two on and even though I’ve never seen it before, I had enough of an idea to know some of the scenery. Walking the walls was just awesome. Really, it was one of the highlights of this trip. The way they were built to the views around it were just spectacular. And doing it right at opening before it got super hot was clutch on our end. J and I had also read online that our wall ticket entitled is to entrance to Fort Lovrijenac, also a GOT filming spot. The views of the old city and the walls from here were also incredible. The old ancient walls with the blue sky and the clear blue-green Adriatic were picture perfect.

There were many GOT tours going on so we listened in on a few of them. J had seen the show before so knew what they were talking about and had I been a fan, I definitely would have been down to go on one of those. I do know I want to try and watch all the seasons of GOT before the new and final season comes out. I want to see if I recognize anything, plus I hear it’s just that good of a show.

Our last stop of the morning was up the cable car to Mount Srd to get a full on panoramic aerial view of the city. The car went fast and high and the views again were amazing. On top of the mountain, we also went into the war museum. All the artifacts and information in there was about the war between Bosnia and Croatia which neither J nor I had any knowledge on. It was interesting to me because of the nature of how this city is set up with the walls and how the Bosnians attacked it.

After we did our three agenda items, it was time to head back to the hotel, grab some lunch, and head back to the hotel for some final pool time. We started talking to these girls from California who were about our age and really cool. We all got some pool beers and just hung and talked for a couple of hours and then all of us headed to the beach. One of the girls and I had wanted to try this giant blow up water area in the Adriatic. I had eyed it yesterday, but didn’t care too much to try it. She was down to attempt going on it with me so the four of us walked over to the beach and we went for it. Let me tell you, it was a struggle. Swimming out to it was fine, but getting on it was difficult. There were no ladders or anything so you had to basically prop yourself up and onto the blown up edges. And then once up, it was hard to move around. I made it to the trampoline section of it, but we could not make it to the slide. All these little kids were passing us up and laughing at us work so hard to move around. The two of us were laughing so hard at ourselves too. It was definitely worth attempting to get on. We were now salty and tired and ready to head in to get ready for dinner and drinks. J and I and our new friends decided we would grab drinks to watch the sunset at the beach bar by us and then head over to a bar in a cave. We had read stuff online about and the other girls had heard about it too so we figured we’d give it a try. We walked in and walked around, but it was pretty small so we just asked the bartenders there where a fun place to go out tonight would be. They gave us a recommendation but it’s like a super club with house music so we aren’t sure we would like it. We shall see where the night takes us...
