I run because...

Did you know that today is National Running Day? Yes, it's a real holiday. And yes, it's today! So Happy National Running Day to you and yours!

I celebrated my National Running Day as I usually do: waking up at the crack of dawn to get in my morning run. It completes me. Although it was super humid this morning and I had to cut my run short because of that (humidity is my kryptonite), it still helped jumpstart my day. My morning runs give me the energy I need to head to work with a smile on my face and some pep in my step. I even donned a new pair of running shoes on this morning's run making it even more of an event. Wearing new shoes is always fun, but when they are neon yellow, red, and black, its even more fun. Duh!

Running is a not only a hobby of mine, it's a big part of my life and who I am. I didn't always run. In fact, I hated it. The only reason I started running was to lose weight. Then I realized it did so much more for me, mentally and physically. Now, I run for so many reasons.

I run because...it makes me feel strong.
I run because...it gives me a sense of identity.
I run because...it helps me focus.
I run because...it helps me relax.
I run because...it helps me relieve stress.
I run because...it gives me time to listen to new music.
I run because...I love listening to some of my fave songs over and over again and it gives me an excuse to do so.
I run because...it helps me sleep at night.
I run because...I want to burn calories.
I run because...it gives me a purpose.
I run because...I like setting goals.
I run because...I like to compete with myself.
I run because...sometimes it gives me a good excuse to not feel so bad about eating a double shack burger and fries.
I run because...it let's me explore new areas.
I run because...it gives me time to reflect.
I run because...it gives me time to forget.
I run because...it gives me an outlet.
I run because...I like discipline.
I run because...running clothes are awesome and I need to run to have excuses to buy more!
I run because...it keeps me sane. (It's all relative, right?!?!)
I run because...it can be super therapeutic.
I run because... I love a good sweat.

Although sometimes I have a love-hate relationship with running, it has given me so much. It has given me a sense of self, strength, and confidence when I so badly need it. It's become a big part of my life and who I am so of course I celebrated it today!
