Cliché? As if!

There are many teen movies out there. Some are realistic to a certain degree (Mean Girls, Superbad, American Pie) while others just ride the line of complete ridiculousness (See below). But what is the line that divides these two differentials in teen movies? Well, so glad you asked. First off, its the age of the actors playing the teenagers. Some movies don't even bother getting actors and actresses remotely close to high school age, let alone someone looking like an actual teenage. Also, the wardrobes of these teens often borderline totally inaccurate to what real teens wear to school. Finally, and most obviously, the plot of the movie and the predictableness (is that even a real word?) of it. Would any of this happen in real life? And that's a big fat NO. But that's what makes them so fantastic. Some of my favorite cheesy teen movies are listed below. Honestly, there were so many to choose from, but it was kind of fun making this list.

1. Drive Me Crazy. Not only did this movie feature one of my most favorite Britney songs, it had teen idol Melissa Joan Hart who was more well-known as Clarissa. The popular Nicole (Joan Hart) "shockingly" falls for her loner, but smokin' hot neighbor Chase (Adrian Grenier). They were childhood friends and neighbors who drifted apart once she starting becoming popular. In totally different cliques in high school, they come together again and end up falling for each other. Aw.

2. Clueless. Who didn't want to be Cher? I mean, really? She was pretty, rich, had a great wardrobe, and a very hot step-brother who she just happens to weirdly fall in love with. Only in the movies folks.
3. Can't Hardly Wait. Starring one of the teen queens herself, Jennifer Love Hewitt, it was Seth Green's character, Kenny Fisher, who stole the show. A nerdy white ginger kid pretending to be a black gangsta. Pure comedy. His outfits and vocab were straight up hilarious.
4. She's All That. Freddie Prinze Jr. obviously swoon-worthy. He was almost enough for me to go see this movie the first time. So cute. This teen movie had it all: The popular, hot football player falling for the nerdy, artist girl who also happens to be gorgeous once she's all cleaned up. Total cliché, but I loved it. And if I happen to hear "Kiss Me" on the radio ever, it always reminds me of this movie.
5. Bring it On. As someone who is quite the opposite of a cheerleader, I was amazed how much I enjoyed this movie.Wealthy white suburban school has a showdown with inner city, poor cheerleading squad. Geez, I wonder what will happen? Who will win? Will they go from bitter rivals to friends along the way? You tell me.

Honorable Mentions: John Tucker Must Die, 10 Things I Hate About You, Never Been Kissed

If you haven't seen any of these movies, I have no words for you. These are classics.  Even if you have never seen them, about ten minutes into the movie, you can make a pretty good prediction of how its going to end. Isn't that kind of the beauty of it though? I think yes. Sure they're cliché. And sure the popular guy is always going to get with the nerdy girl or vice versa, but we still watch on the edge of our seats. That's what make them so great after all. Like I would ever skip any of these if on TV...As if!
